Textures and Frames and Thinking Outside the Box

Do you ever feel it's difficult to see something differently than what's (literally) right in front of you? I struggle with this quite frequently, and I really feel it's quite common!

When I saw a version of this first card in my post, I thought...brilliant! I never saw this stamp set (Textures and Frames pictured below) this way.
My friend, and fellow demonstrator, Julie Davison, along with other creative demonstrators showed me the way to see this set so differently. In the card below, I took their visions and created my own design in about 10 minutes. This card took, at most, 10 minutes to create and to reproduce! I absolutely love when a project is simple and WOW, all at the same time!

My club ladies made these cards this week and I was so inspired by these cute ornaments that I created another card. With this card I did step it up a bit, but it was easy and simple, using our Words of Cheer bundle in the Fall/Winter mini.

So using the FREE 'Be Dazzling' Specialty Paper and the FREE 'Textures and Frames' Stamp Set I created these cool Christmas cards, and am looking forward to creating many more cards in the coming days!

I hope you enjoyed seeing my projects and feel free to share yours, using some of your FREE SaleABration picks!

Have a great day!

Stampin' Up! Blends with Alcohol

Love, love, loving this technique! So are others! Are you one of the lovers?

It's extremely easy to do and the WOW! factor is where it's at.

If you've not tried making your own background art using this technique, then now is the time.

Collect 3 colors of Stampin' Blends. For this card I used the dark in the combos for all the colors. Those colors would be Granny Apple Green, Fresh Freesia and Mango Melody.

I took a scrap of vellum and randomly "scribbled" the colors onto the paper. Then I used the medium tipped water painter and dabbed 91% Rubbing Alcohol onto the colors. When my background was dry I took the water painter, dipped it in the alcohol and splattered the alcohol around the colored Vellum. When my finished piece was completely dry I used the largest Stitched Rectangle Die and cut my piece which I then mounted (using my Stampin' Seal (+)) to some Basic White cardstock cut to the same size.  I cut and pieced together some flowers using my Meadow Dies and Granny Apple Green as well as Fresh Freesia cardstock. I layered them behind my Happy Birthday sentiment, using the Liquid Multipurpose Glue. For the birthday sentiment I cut one piece of Fresh Freesia and one piece of Basic White cardstock. I offset them to give a shadow effect and then used the liquid glue to attach it to the card front. I embellished with a small glittery butterfly and some shiny little purple flowers. I added my Wink of Stella to my Freesia cut flowers, so they had a little sparkle, too. The next to last part of completing my card was to add the artwork to a Fresh Freesia card base. I did add an interior Basic White piece and another cut and pieced flower. It just added that special touch to my daughter's special card for her birthday.

This was a pretty simple process, but the background just brings something that could have been so ordinary into the stunning category.

So, again, if you haven't tried this technique, then do it now! Whatcha waitin' for;)

Meadow Birthday in Red and Green

Meadow Birthday in Red and Green

Stamps

Peaceful Moments (151595)

 Paper

Evening Evergreen (155574)- Cut 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" and score at 4 1/4", use scrap for cutting leaves pieces using Meadow Die; Vellum (101856)- Cut initially 4 3/4" X 5 1/2". Once you have colorized, cut down to 4" X 5" and cut smaller piece to 3/4" X 5 1/4" to layer onto Gray Granite piece to decorate card interior; Gray Granite (146983)- Cut 4" X 5 1/4"; Fluid 100 Watercolor (149612)

 Ink

Classic- Evening Evergreen (155576); Cherry Cobbler (147083); Memento Tuxedo Black (132708)

Blends- Evening Evergreen (155517); Cherry Cobbler (154880); Smoky Slate (154908)

 Embellishments

Metallic Pearls (gold) (146282)

 Adhesives

Stampin’ Seal (+) (149699); Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755); Dimensionals (104430)

 Tools

Dies- Meadow (155852); Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine (149653); Water Painters (151298);

Spritzer (126185)

 Other

Rubbing Alcohol 91%

Instructions

1. Using the Blends/Alcohol Markers and 91% Rubbing Alcohol (70% IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH...LOOKS WASHED OUT!), randomly color splotches using 3 different colors of Blends (I used Evening Evergreen, Cherry Cobbler and Smoky Slate) on the piece of Vellum. Pour a small amount of alcohol into the lid of the alcohol container and dab alcohol with the medium tipped Water Painter, onto each of the colorized areas of the vellum, starting with the lightest color and move to the boldest, rinsing brush in between colors. As you add the alcohol the color will begin to spread and do amazing things! When you've finished colorizing your Vellum, let dry. This won't take long. Once dried, and using the Water Painter, splatter alcohol randomly over your piece. It will look like cool little bubbles and you can do as little or as much as you like. Set Vellum aside to dry and move onto your base card.

2. Fold and burnish score of Evergreen card base with bone folder.

3. Using the Stampin' Seal (+), run it around the edge of the dried Vellum paper and adhere to the card front.

4. Cut 3 sets of Evening Evergreen leaves from Meadow die and arrange, as desired, onto Vellum. Use Liquid Glue and adhere.

5. Colorize Fluid Watercolor Paper with Cherry Cobbler ink. I put a few drops from the ink refill on the inside of the ink pad lid and diluted some with the alcohol in my Water Painter. Use your creativity with this part of the project. I used dry paper for this part to get bolder colors. I also made sure that my piece was NOT completely colored. I wanted some interest/highlighting on the flowers. Put your piece through the cutting machine, being sure to capture the flower heads. You don't need the stems, at this point.

6. Colorize more of the Watercolor Paper using the Evening Evergreen, again, avoiding complete coverage with your ink. I did spritz the paper prior to adding ink. After colorizing I spritzed again. Once my paper was dried (you can speed up this process using the Heat Tool) I cut the stems.

7. I wanted to keep dimension and movement with my flowers, so after I assembled the flower heads on the stems I added Liquid Glue to the base of the stems only, and arranged them on my card front.

8. I made a birthday card, but obviously, stamp whichever sentiment is appropriate for your card and cut with the coordinating Stitched Rectangle Die. Adhere sentiment piece over the base of your stems using Stampin' Dimensionals.

9. Finish your card with the Metallic Pearls. I used one gold Pearl on the sentiment piece. Then I added 3 Pearls on the remainder of my card front, placed in a triangle to draw the eye around the design, giving visual interest to my piece.

10. Remember...this is your card. My card is merely a suggestion of what you can make. Enjoy creating!

11. Feel free to comment and share your project.

Positive Thoughts for Friends Like You

                                       by Tammie Rundle

As I thought about this card and what the theme would be I concluded that it would be bright, happy and representative of how I feel about stamping, about my friends and about bringing this joy to all I know.

To bring these thoughts to fruition I chose to have a white background that would really make the colors I chose POP off the card. I also wanted to give some beauty to the “plain” background, so I brought in the gorgeous embossing folder, Parisian Flourish.

This card is simple, yet elegant. It showcases that everyone can make this card, or their version of this card, based upon what supplies they have on hand.

In conclusion, have fun making your card. Make it your own and when you’re finished, send your card and brighten someone’s day.

Below you’ll find my recipe including ingredients and measurements…

Shower Candy Bags

In a few short days we will celebrate, with a shower, our youngest daughter's upcoming birth of our sixth grandchild. Our baby's having a baby! We are elated and planning this event has been a labor of love.

We stopped by Crown's Candy Kitchen, here in St. Louis, to check out their chocolates. Oh my! Delicious!! I'm really looking forward to sharing this delectable delight with our guests as we prepare to welcome our new granddaughter soon.

With the exception of the inks and cardstock (and the pearls), I think almost everything I used has retired (some of it several years ago...gasp!), but no worries...retired is FINE! I remember in the past I shuddered at the amount of products I had on hand that were retiring, and I just sighed. Now I get so excited as I explore those things I'd forgotten I even had. And guess what. They're all relevant! And so fun! I actually used this stamp set for my granddaughter, Julia's, shower invitation. She's 13, now😀

I guess the point of this post is to share my joy of my new grandchild and to reinforce that retired stuff is awesome and definitely serves a wonderful purpose. So with that, I'll ask you. Do you have retired things that are just sitting there waiting to be used? Then DO IT! Use it and celebrate as you do!!

So Succulent Thanks

This card is so fun to make and using 3 of our "green" inks was very gratifying. Water painting, for me, is very soothing and these pens make it so easy.

Cut Soft Seafoam Cardstock to 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" and score at 4 1/2".

Cut Very Vanilla Cardstock to 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" and run through your Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine using the beautiful background die from the Simply Succulents Bundle (Potted Succulents).

Stamp "Thanks" on a scrap of Soft Seafoam Cardstock and cut with die.

Stamp the pot and the large succulent arrangement on the Fluid Watercolor Paper, color each, using the Water Painters and re-stamp to give your images definition prior to removing the images from the Stamparatus.

Adhere all, as desired. I used Dimensionals and Stampin' Seal.

A Simply Succulent Card for You

I grow, and love, succulents! They're easy, no pressure plants that tolerate being left alone very well. When I saw this bundle in the 2021 Spring Mini, in addition to the subject matter, the artwork of these stamps and dies is wonderful! As I viewed different interpretations using these stamps on Pinterest and in the FB Demonstrator Planning Place, I really loved the opportunity to color, if I wanted. In the past I would have used my Aqua Painters. Now, with their replacement, I was able to use my Water Painters. Oh, how I love this option!

The layering of the pieces really brings to life the plants and the area surrounding them.

The sentiment stamps in this set are just as lovely. This stamp set spoke to me on so many levels.

...A little bit of background on my color choices for my card...

I'm frequently asked how I come up with my card ideas, the colors I use, etc. As mentioned previously, I check out social media sites and when I haven't found what is in my wheelhouse of possibilities I just ask myself..."what color have you NOT used in awhile?" I pick it, and I'm off to the races.

As you can tell, Soft Sea Foam has taken a break from my hobby, so it was THE WINNER! To compliment SSF I chose Pear Pizzazz and to accent I used Cajun Craze.

Check out my supply list below for the components and tools I used for this project.

Gilded Leafing on Black

Knowing that gold looks lovely on black I decided to take my previous card and do some gold embossing and well as adding the leafing.

Gilded Leafing Easter Butterflies

I am constantly looking for ideas for cards and other projects. I love seeing the ideas on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and the Demonstrator Planning Place on Facebook. I also like CASEing the Stampin’ Up! catalog projects. Did you know that if you’re a demonstrator you have access to all the recipes of the catalogs? Pretty cool! Just another perk;) If you’d like to know more about this, and other demonstrator opportunities, please message me.

For my card today, my inspiration came from the Demonstrator Planning Place. Although I did not see this card in that forum, I did see LOTS of wonderful Butterfly Brilliance projects. If that wasn’t inspiration enough, I’m not sure what would be!

My recipient for my Easter card will be my mother, who has been locked down in her nursing home for the last several months. I’m not sure how you’re doing with this seemingly “new way of life”, but I am doing my best to find more, and better, ways to keep the lines of communication open to those I care about. It’s a challenge, for sure, but it’s definitely an opportunity for changing for the good.

On the following page(s) I will walk you through my steps to creating this card, including supplies used and the measurements for the different card components.

So check it out, and send me some pictures of your projects that maybe I helped inspire with these beautiful stamps, dies and colors. I would love to see your creations!

~Tammie

Ornate Garden Ribbon Old Olive– cut to 24” (Item # 152479)

 Instructions

1. Cut and score all cardstock.

2. Using the leaves stamp in the Positive Thoughts set, stamp in Versamark Ink and coat with Heat & Stick Powder on the two pieces of front layers of cardstock cut with the rectangle dies.

3. Turn on heat tool (hi setting) and allow to get very warm. Once warm, direct at leaf image and quickly heat till you see the powder melt.

AVOID OVERHEATING as this will diminish the stickiness of the melted powder!

4. Immediately place this piece in your container of gilded leafing and press so the leafing adheres to the melted powder. Remove excess leafing using a sponge. Repeat with the second piece. Set these 2 pieces aside.

5. With the 2 pieces of inside layers of cardstock stamp flowers from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set and sentiment “Always…” from the Field of flowers stamp set. On a small scrap of cardstock, stamp “thinking of you” from Field of Flowers set.

6. Set all of these things aside and now you will create the beautiful butterflies for your card. Cut the largest detailed butterfly   from the piece of vellum. Run your piece through the cutter 4 times to ensure a complete cut of the intricate pieces. Carefully take the cut butterfly and lay on the Versamark pad and press down fully covering butterfly in the ink. Turn over and pour on the Heat & Stick powder. As before sponge. Set butterfly aside.

7. Using the large die with multiple butterflies from the Brilliant Wings Dies and cut a template from a scrap of 6” X 6” dark cardstock.

8. Take a piece of the Butterfly Bijou DSP with the large printed butterflies and lay it down on the Stamparatus base. Line up the template you just cut with the butterflies and then lay your stamp down inside this template. I like to use the template to get exact layering, but you don’t have to use it. It’s up to you. Once your stamp is aligned with the template bring down the clear plate of your Stamparatus onto the stamp, bring back up, and ink with Versamark. Use a couple coats of ink to ensure good coverage.

9. Carefully remove stamped DSP and pour the Heat & Stick Powder over the entire piece of DSP and then melt the powder quickly. Immediately lay in gilded leafing and press firmly to get good coverage. Again, using your sponge, remove the excess leafing.

10. Using the large butterfly die, cut your butterflies and choose which two you will use on the front of your card. Use the largest one for the inside of your card.

 11. With the large DSP butterfly and your vellum butterfly, adhere them together at the body and then, after the glue has    dried, play with the wings of the vellum butterfly to get some dimension. Lay your butterfly aside.

12. Using the black cardstock, cut 5 each of “Happy” and “Easter” using the Word Wishes dies. Layer all 5 pieces of each word, using the liquid glue, giving you a nice thick sentiment that will add dimension to your card.

13.  It’s time now to assemble your card. When you assemble your “Happy Easter” pieces, glue only one side so your card will open. I glued the butterflies on the card front just on their bodies, to give dimension and visual interest.

14. Finally, add a couple of Matte Black Dots to the card front and close card using the Old Olive Ornate Ribbon.

Many Messages Meets Chicks

Sentiments…the “right” sentiments…has always been an important determinant to selecting and then purchasing my stamps. I not only want a nice, stamped image, I also want my card to say the right thing, with the right font. What about you? I also want to choose stamps that will be good, not only for the current catalog period, but good enough to go into my permanent stamp stash for projects I make down the road.

Seeing the Many Messages Bundle in the 2021 Spring Mini Catalog (pages 35 & 77), I instantly added it to my Wish List. Knowing that there would be numerous desires from this amazing publication and knowing I must pace myself/my budget I ALWAYS make a Wish List.

When I received this bundle, I was excited, but also a bit perplexed as to how I would use it. The immediate realization with this bundle is that all the sentiments are stamped at one time, and then cut all at one time. One could easily choose to stamp and/or cut independently, but personally, I think that would defeat the purpose of these items. Think about the time you’ll be saving and the multiple colors/effects you can get when you stamp and cut all together! Once you’re done you just store all your unused pieces until another project arises. HOW COOL IS THAT?!

Without further verbiage check out these pictures below as I show you what I mean:

Step One: Line up your cardstock on the Stamparatus grid paper in the bottom left corner. Ink stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp onto Basic White Thick Cardstock. If the images need to be bolder, re-ink stamp and stamp again. This step is such a delight using the Stamparatus. You get perfect stamping every time without having to start all over.

Step Two: Place stamped sentiments on Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine and line die up with images and cut.

 That’s it! Easy peasy.

The next thing to do is decide what project you’re making and choose your sentiments. Store your remaining stamped sentiments for the next project/s.

If you’ve seen my earlier blog posts, then you know that the Chick Bundles (Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick) are two of my all-time favorites. With that being said, you can understand why it made perfect sense to demonstrate the Many Messages Bundle with these bundles.

Hey Girlfriend for my Granddaughter

I’ve been having fun creating today and thought I’d share with you. Our granddaughter is celebrating her 12th birthday tomorrow and so obviously I needed to make a card. It’s hard to believe that she’s this old now. Especially considering that just yesterday she was toddling around and creating cute mischief that only little kids can do.
Of course, what Gramma considers cute mischief may be looked at a little differently than her parents see it, but that’s the joy of being a grandparent, right?! Anyhow, when I saw this adorable stamp among the set, Hey Girlfriend, in our new Spring Mini (page 50), I immediately thought of Madi. She’s really getting into glam and gorgeous and this is the perfect stamp to use for her card. I used the Stamparatus (page 164-Annual Catalog) for the repetitive stamping on the Artistry Blooms DSP under the layered Vellum. TheOrnate Borders Dies (page 117-Annual Catalog) brought my creative notion from a design to a production. With the need to continue my “production” I layered my happy birthday sentiment using a piece of the Silver Foil Sheet under the Magenta Madness piece that I cut using the Ornate Frames Die (page 182-AnnualCatalog).

I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink since I knew I wanted to color this girl with my Stampin’ Blends.

Lastly, I blinged up her dress with my Wink of Stella and added the Elegant Faceted Gems for the ultimate POP!

With that, my wish to you is that you are able to get into your stampin’ spot and start creating. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you are in charge of your creations and the beautiful way it can make you feel!

Happy stamping,

~Tammie

Hey Birthday Chick is So Happy

Oh my gosh, when I heard the news I was jumping for joy! “What news?”, you say. Are you ready? In February you will be able to not only get the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set that’s available in our new 2021 Spring Mini. You will also be able to get the coordinating dies to cut out your pieces you create.

How exciting is that?! So, on February 2nd (through June 30th) be sure to check into my online store and order your Hey Birthday Chick Bundle.

If that’s not exciting enough, you’ll also be able to get a stamp set from the past…that’s right…you’ll be able to order the Hey Chick stamp set. If that stamp sounds familiar, well, it should. It was a Sale-Abration offering from 2017! So many of us, demonstrators and customers alike, were absolutely in love with this set! It was just a happy set, it made us smile and we couldn’t get enough as we enjoyed each other’s creations using these silly chickens!

But wait, that’s not all! There will be a bundle available for those who do not, yet, have the stamp set. Plus, if you have that stamp, you’ll be able to purchase the new coordinating dies!! SQUEAL!!

Are you excited? So again, put this date on your calendar…February 2nd. Then get those bundles ordered and remember to choose your favorite Sale-Abration item because as you probably know, for every $50 in product you choose you get something FREE!
