Gilded Leafing on Black

Knowing that gold looks lovely on black I decided to take my previous card and do some gold embossing and well as adding the leafing.

Gilded Leafing Easter Butterflies

I am constantly looking for ideas for cards and other projects. I love seeing the ideas on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and the Demonstrator Planning Place on Facebook. I also like CASEing the Stampin’ Up! catalog projects. Did you know that if you’re a demonstrator you have access to all the recipes of the catalogs? Pretty cool! Just another perk;) If you’d like to know more about this, and other demonstrator opportunities, please message me.

For my card today, my inspiration came from the Demonstrator Planning Place. Although I did not see this card in that forum, I did see LOTS of wonderful Butterfly Brilliance projects. If that wasn’t inspiration enough, I’m not sure what would be!

My recipient for my Easter card will be my mother, who has been locked down in her nursing home for the last several months. I’m not sure how you’re doing with this seemingly “new way of life”, but I am doing my best to find more, and better, ways to keep the lines of communication open to those I care about. It’s a challenge, for sure, but it’s definitely an opportunity for changing for the good.

On the following page(s) I will walk you through my steps to creating this card, including supplies used and the measurements for the different card components.

So check it out, and send me some pictures of your projects that maybe I helped inspire with these beautiful stamps, dies and colors. I would love to see your creations!

 Instructions

1. Cut and score all cardstock.

2. Using the leaves stamp in the Positive Thoughts set, stamp in Versamark Ink and coat with Heat & Stick Powder on the two pieces of front layers of cardstock cut with the rectangle dies.

3. Turn on heat tool (hi setting) and allow to get very warm. Once warm, direct at leaf image and quickly heat till you see the powder melt.

AVOID OVERHEATING as this will diminish the stickiness of the melted powder!

4. Immediately place this piece in your container of gilded leafing and press so the leafing adheres to the melted powder. Remove excess leafing using a sponge. Repeat with the second piece. Set these 2 pieces aside.

5. With the 2 pieces of inside layers of cardstock stamp flowers from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set and sentiment “Always…” from the Field of flowers stamp set. On a small scrap of cardstock, stamp “thinking of you” from Field of Flowers set.

6. Set all of these things aside and now you will create the beautiful butterflies for your card. Cut the largest detailed butterfly   from the piece of vellum. Run your piece through the cutter 4 times to ensure a complete cut of the intricate pieces. Carefully take the cut butterfly and lay on the Versamark pad and press down fully covering butterfly in the ink. Turn over and pour on the Heat & Stick powder. As before sponge. Set butterfly aside.

7. Using the large die with multiple butterflies from the Brilliant Wings Dies and cut a template from a scrap of 6” X 6” dark cardstock.

8. Take a piece of the Butterfly Bijou DSP with the large printed butterflies and lay it down on the Stamparatus base. Line up the template you just cut with the butterflies and then lay your stamp down inside this template. I like to use the template to get exact layering, but you don’t have to use it. It’s up to you. Once your stamp is aligned with the template bring down the clear plate of your Stamparatus onto the stamp, bring back up, and ink with Versamark. Use a couple coats of ink to ensure good coverage.

9. Carefully remove stamped DSP and pour the Heat & Stick Powder over the entire piece of DSP and then melt the powder quickly. Immediately lay in gilded leafing and press firmly to get good coverage. Again, using your sponge, remove the excess leafing.

10. Using the large butterfly die, cut your butterflies and choose which two you will use on the front of your card. Use the largest one for the inside of your card.

 11. With the large DSP butterfly and your vellum butterfly, adhere them together at the body and then, after the glue has    dried, play with the wings of the vellum butterfly to get some dimension. Lay your butterfly aside.

12. Using the black cardstock, cut 5 each of “Happy” and “Easter” using the Word Wishes dies. Layer all 5 pieces of each word, using the liquid glue, giving you a nice thick sentiment that will add dimension to your card.

13.  It’s time now to assemble your card. When you assemble your “Happy Easter” pieces, glue only one side so your card will open. I glued the butterflies on the card front just on their bodies, to give dimension and visual interest.

14. Finally, add a couple of Matte Black Dots to the card front and close card using the Old Olive Ornate Ribbon.
